| Weird title. Last know selling price of the 8800 512 Mb (thus faster) was sub 150 euro... And the card is like 3 years old.

| My cheap nas I bough some time ago is also faster then the Intel Pentium 4 EE that costed 1k euro for the chip only 5 years ago.... Or the 9600 Gt (100 euro) also beats the 350 euro ATI X850XT...

| I have to agree with Piotr: I don't see why you should be comparing with hardware from the past (including the price from the past). Maybe it's indeed only to make a point regarding how fast the hardware scene evolves? |

| Yes. GPUs always double in performance every two years or so, current generation's midrange compares to last generation's high-end. As I recall the 7600GT was around as fast as a 6800GT, 6600GT around as fast as the 5950 Ultra, etc. I think only difference is AMD is doing one better than doubling performance... then again, they have to make up for lost time with X2900 and 3870 generations... Still nice to see AMD offering incredible value. |

| when you're talking about doubling performance you're talking about products launched IN THE SAME SEGMENT hence the 7600 GT vs 6600 GT, 7600 GT vs 8600 GT etc. But this is not the case here; we're comparing HIGH END with ENTRY LEVEL the correct "double in two years" partner would be: HD 4770 compares to 8500 GT GTS 640Mb compares to HD 4870 now if you do the math, you'll see that it is not just "DOUBLE" the performance HD 4770 being almost twice as fast as GTS 640Mb in ~2 years time is just insane!

| Um, no read what I typed. 7600GT to 6800 Ultra. That is midrange to high-end. Same with 6600GT to 5950 Ultra, midrange to high-end. Quote:
Better question is will AMD keep up this fall when NVIDIA launches a completely new design again. Last edited by Kougar : 30th April 2009 at 22:17. | |
