 |  Apple did not lose the headphone jack to get extra space Mind the Gap It seems that Apple did not remove the headphone jack to allow it to provide more space after all. When Apple killed off the speaker jack its CEO Tim Cook said, "that jack takes up a lot of space in the phone, a lot of space. And there's a lot of more important things we can provide for the consumer than that jack." OK fair enough, so what did Apple do with the extra space? Well it turns out that the latest tear down carried out by iFixit found that Apple was doing nothing with the extra space it gained from getting rid of the headphone jack. It wrote that in place of the headphone jack, is a component that seems to channel sound from outside the phone into the microphone. In other words, Apple has not put anything into the space at all, just some acoustics holes, which lead nowhere and moulded plastic. http://fudzilla.com/news/mobile/4163...et-extra-space |
