AMD unveils 16-core Ryzen 9 3950X gaming CPU

Flagship Ryzen 3000 series with 4.7GHz boost

In addition to giving a recap of its full Ryzen 3000 series CPU which will launch on July 7th, AMD has unveiled its newest flagship CPU, the Ryzen 9 3950X, a 16-core gaming CPU with a Boost CPU clock of 4.7GHz, and $749 price tag.

While we are still waiting for new Threadrippers, AMD has pulled another surprise at its Next Horizon Gaming event at the E3 2019 show in Los Angeles, the 16-core Ryzen 9 3950X. This 16-core/32-thread beast will have 8+64MB of cache (L2+L3), the same 105W TDP, and work at 3.5GHz base and 4.7GHz CPU Boost clocks.

In case you missed it back at Computex 2019 show, AMD's Ryzen 3000 series lineup, which will launch on July 7th, include Ryzen 5 3600, Ryzen 5 3600X, Ryzen 7 3700X, Ryzen 7 3800X, and the Ryzen 9 3900X. These range from 6- to 12-core CPUs with enabled SMT, with pricing ranging from $199 to $499.

The new flagship, 16-core Ryzen 9 3950X, will launch in September for $749, and it might be worth the wait as it will offer significant performance boost compared to the Ryzen 9 3900X, and hopefully, 3rd generation Threadripper CPUs are coming as well.
