AMD shows off Barcelona at 3Ghz I GUESS THE speed path problems with Barcelona were a bit overblown. At the analyst day this morning, AMD demoed a 3Ghz Phenom running the new 'Tri-Fire multi-GPU' setup. http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=41256 |
Let's dream and think that 3ghz Barcelona is their low end chip;) |
The question is wheter this is some very good sample to calm down the analysts or if it is indicating that the yields are great. |
I fear the first reason:/ |

PCI express bandwidth enough for GPU physics use? |
Raw PCIe bandwidth should not be a problem, or in the very least it will not be with PCIe 2.0 boards. I would wonder about how much satuation Crossfire+GPU physics in addition to the already loaded RAM/CPU/Audio/disks would cause to the northbridge? Even though the southbridge handles some things like disks and audio it still must be routed through the northbridge... |
The stock market didn't seem to take this bait at all, with AMD loosing even more than Intel despite Intel being investigated by the EU (with a potentail 2.5 bn € fine). |
stock market jumping at latest tech news? Intel jumping up last year when world+dog knew in August that C2D was future? nope:) |
