Default AMD's new Socket AM2: it's no Conroe-killer, but it's not supposed to be

So AM2 isn't going to keep Conroe from retaking the x86 performance crown when it's launched, but then again it's not supposed to. AM2's effects won't be felt until much later in the mid-range, when both Intel and AMD increase the number of cores per socket and memory bandwidth really starts to become a major bottleneck, and sooner at the very high end with four-socket and higher designs.

quite right he is in fact, look how many people know "Intel" "Pentium" and haven't heard of "AMD" or think AMD is worse.

misinformation or "lack of interest" rules the "joe sixpack" crowd.

either way; this is a HW enthusiast website; things posted here are not read by the average Joe; so in the end... our readers don't listen to Marketing

most people are ... sheep.
They all follow the rest and when they are on their own, they will do what seems familiar (or they get eaten by the big bad wolf).

So, in the beginning, there was Intel, we all bought Intel and the rest started to do the same.
Now most people buy Intel and Intel also sounds familiar, so everybody buys Intel.

That's they simple explanation .

Other factors like 'outdated' information are also in the play.

Most people buyed "a Pentium".
Kate: "I have a Pentium 4 or something like that. That's good, right?"

But... Pentium is dead now
