AMD: ''Real Men Use Real Cores''

AMD finally strikes back at Intel’s competitive server claims.

It took indeed several days for AMD to respond to some of the claims that Intel made when it launched its next-generation server chip Xeon 5500 (Nehalem) last week.

And reading through the counter-claims, Intel’s Nehalem looks more of a jumbo-jet than a supersonic jet fighter!

haha, what a statement :D , but they are right. Hyperthreading is great for desktop computers, but not for servers. They only thing a server needs is raw processing power and HT doesn't offer that, there's no use in comparing a Dual Core HT enabled server cpu to a real Quad Core.

Rest of the article is interesting to read too, but I'd like to see some real numbers from both sides first :)

Are you kidding me?? Just look at any server benchmarks from Anandtech's IT tests. HT makes some very large performance gains. Look at the results with HT enabled and disabled. ;) Link

The opposite is actually true... HT doesn't really get utilized on a desktop. On a server where the CPU loads are maxed it can make a huge difference.

This statement was just silly for AMD to make. Perhaps when AMD can beat Intel's chips with HT disabled they can start complaining about HT... right now the point is moot as Intel beats with with and without HT.
