AMD Promises 2.5GHz Quad-Core Microprocessors in December Advanced Micro Devices said during the formal unveiling of its quad-core server microprocessors that it would introduce 25% faster versions of the chip in about two months time. The move will allow the world’s second largest chipmaker not only to improve performance for servers, but also to present a competitive solution for desktops. http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/cpu/dis...911220754.html |
If clock for clock the Phenom is about as fast as Core 2 Duo, and costs less, we have reason to have some hope. For the enthusiast though it's not likely to be the ideal solution, seeing as Core 2 scales nicely with OC, something which still has to be seen with the Phenom. |
Article stated performance would only scale to 15% for a 25% increase in clocks. This matches the roughly 15%+ average increase with 2.5GHz Barcelona results from Anandtech's tests very well. http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets...spx?i=3092&p=6 |
