AMD Preps Low-Cost Dual-Core Processors

Advanced Micro Devices once offered premium technologies at very affordable pricing, however, once times changed, it became more conservative and kept the finest parts for those, who can afford. But as Intel Corp. attacks with affordable dual-core chips, AMD has to react and this reaction could follow in the fourth quarter with the intro of AMD Athlon 64 X2 3600+.

Basically, this is two Semprons joined at the hip, since this is 2x256kb L2 cache. It it designed to undercut Intel's low end $183 Conroe...

Something to keep in mind is that while both the E6300 and X2 3600+ will have half the L2 cache, the Intel part will hold a big advantage... Either core of Conroe can utilize the entire 2mb of cache as needed, while the 3600+ is stuck using 256kb cache per core. So it is no better than two Semprons double-teamed...
