IF YOU'RE CONFUSED by what kind of CPU you want - and goodness knows the SKUs are legion these days, AMD is offering a desktop processor quick reference guide.
The site, which you can find here, allows you to compare and contrast all sorts of things including steppings, cache, "model numbers", wattage and the like.

We suspect it's going to be more important than ever that everyone has a clear guide to what they're buying and what it does.

Both AMD and Intel have somewhat muddied the waters with numbers, names, references and arcana possibly more suited to freemasonry than the Brotherhood of the DRAM. Nevertheless, it's a great step forward and we're hoping Intel will emulate AMD on this one. µ
