Default AMD M88 is Mobility Radeon 3870

ATI plans a lot of mobile cards for the midyear notebook refresh. There will be two major platform launches, Cantiga GM45 from Intel and Puma from AMD. Both of them will happen around Computex (June 2008) or should I say late Q2.

ATI is getting ready with its discrete mobile cards and M88 is the one that will catch the most attention. This is the first high performance GPU for notebook that ATI released in a while. R600 never got its mobile part, simply due to the fact that it was incredibly hot and it was to big to be placed in notebooks.

M88, or Radeon Mobility 3870, is a based on RV670 and we believe it will do well in notebooks, but don’t expect this GPU in thin and light machines. It still needs some thick 15 or 17-inch notebook as it will require a heat-pipe to cool it.
