Default AMD HD4870 X2 Crossfire Scaling

Looking at the results from the previous pages, we can see that except for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. the HD4870 X2 Crossfire doesnt work as its supposed to. We can assume one of the following for this
1) The Drivers are not quite ready to take advantage of four GPUs working together- part of this is definitely true as we saw ET: Quake Wars not work at all with AA/AF disabled.

2) The Games are not optimized for multiple GPUs- It took the longest time for games to take advantage of dual GPUs. Lets hope that the move to multiple GPUs is faster.

3) We wouid only be able to see performance gains at extremely high resolutions. This is also true as a single HD4870 X2 card starts to shine at ultr-high resolutions and putting two together makes the argument more valid.
I think that the combination of all three of the above is where we're at. Drivers will mature, games should become more friendly to multiple GPUs and displays will provide higher resolutions. Thus, we dont necessarily recommend an X2 Crossfire setup for now- a single card is enough to satisfy all your gaming needs. Dual X2 cards will also raise the power requirements from your PSU as well as generate enough heat to brew your coffee- not something we want our PCs to do.
