AMD Finally Admits it Stumbled in 2007
 

It has been no secret that that AMD was a company in trouble in 2007. Despite starting off the year on a high following its acquisition of ATI, by the middle of the year things had started to turn sour, only to get steadily worse towards year-end while the company itself appeared to have its head in the sand.

Problems started when the first products of the AMD/ATI union, the Radeon HD 2000 series, were delayed, according to graphics card markers. AMD argued that launch dates on roadmaps given to partners are not official, a spurious distinction at best, aimed solely at keeping investors happy. When the 2000 series finally launched, the performance of the high-end 2900 card failed to meet the expectations of old-ATI customers, while power consumption and temperatures were generally considered too high, causing many to label the 2000 series a flop.
