AMD + ATI and CPU/GPU integration

Now that the merger is official, AMD has a set of pages up with information on the combined company's future plans. AMD execs also gave a conference call, in which they covered some of the reasons behind the merger. In short, the stated reasons for the merger were pretty much along the lines that we laid out in a recent article: "platformization" ala Intel, which would better enable the combined company to compete on the corporate desktop, and system-level CPU-GPU integration. The call also mentioned die-level CPU-GPU integration, a factor that we did not explore in the aforementioned article.
