Abit and DFI tackle ATI's CrossFire Xpress 3200
 

Looking back, the timeline of Abit's decline nearly matches the rise of DFI. For years, DFI was best known for OEM and industrial products, but recently it's built a series of exceptional enthusiast-oriented LANParty boards. Those boards have offered unique designs, plenty of BIOS options, and a penchant for running at higher-than-stock speeds that's made them particularly popular among overclockers.

With some calling DFI the new Abit, we thought it only fitting to pit these two companies' latest Athlon 64 motherboards against each other head to head. Can the LANParty UT CFX3200-DR continue DFI's streak of killer Athlon 64 mobos, or will Abit's AT8 32X rise like a Phoenix to retake the enthusiast motherboard crown? Read on to find out.

These board's have been tested to death already. Who needs another test with AM2 out and Conroe due in a few weeks. Sorry boys, too slow with the test = old news.

A) Old news for you can be fresh news to others.

2) There are still enough people that want/need to change their S939 board, but don't want to change sockets.

Note that both use AMD's older 939-pin Athlon 64 socket rather than the 940-pin Socket AM2. AM2 may be AMD's new hotness, but with DDR2 memory offering few tangible performance benefits for Athlon 64 platforms, Socket 939 is hardly old and busted. In fact, for those already invested in DDR memory or Socket 939 processors, there's no compelling reason to upgrade to Socket AM2.

A) More tests on the web = more information = better informed buyers; now how can that be bad?


Still not convinced? In that case you can always e-mail The Tech Report and ask if it would be possible to only release information usefull for you personnally in future articles. :rolleyes:

No, I'll just email them and request that they release news information while it's still news.
Maybe i'll ask them to post some tests of S754 boards just in case someone needs one of them too, after all there's never too much information, eh? :^D

both Firetech and Ranzy have a point; the article is late, there are already quite a few solid reviews of these boards on the web; however, TechReport offers in-depth coverage with good comments in their reviews and worth the read.

Yeah ask 'em. Because those idiots at the Tech Report don't have the slightest clue of what's hot and what's not in hardware land. I mean, come on who still buys those antique S939 Crossfire boards these days right?

I am relaxed, it's just that I don't agree with you on this being old and useless news, Tech Report probably covered something(s) you won't easily find in other reviews.
