Default 2013 Mac Pro won't be updated until next year

Apple’s determination to be at the cutting edge of computing has been highlighted by its commitment to keep its Mac Pro up-to-date.

The fruity cargo cult has not updated the Mac Pro since 2013 which, in computing terms, is so old it might as well be powered by steam. The Mac Pro is used by those in graphics production houses, who apparently noticed that there are cheaper and far better products on the market now, so Apple never thought to refresh it. After all, if idiots are still buying the machines why bother improving it? Word on the street was that an update was coming soon, but now it appears that will not happen until sometime next years – maybe.

This time last year marketing chief Phil Schiller said that Apple was “completely rethinking” the Mac Pro. It took a lot of rethinking because the outfit is still doing it.

Apple’s senior director of Mac hardware product marketing Tom Boger told Tech Crunch: "We want to be transparent and communicate openly with our pro community, so we want them to know that the Mac Pro is a 2019 product. It’s not something for this year. Apple wants pro consumers to know they’ll be waiting at least another year for the Mac Pro."

In the meantime, Apple expects its media users to continue to stump up €3,449 for a five year old computer which is shaped like a rubbish bin.

“As we said a year ago working on modular was inherently a modular system, and in looking at our customers and their workflows obviously that’s a real need for our customers, and that’s the direction we’re going”, Boger said in the interview.

It had been thought that new Mac Pro may be one of the first devices Apple outfits with an ARM-based processor. If that is the case, it will not happen until 2020.
