still lagging 800 points @ xp3000+(2666mhz) speed compared to a 2.8 p4 in 3dmark2001, you would have to get it to 3 ghz to beat a 3.1 ghz p4...
however... the hardocp 2.5 ghz amd kicks 2.8 rimmpowered p4butt...what's going on here... that is just weird...

but running @ 166 fsb (soon)*, with ddr400 and the Barton-improvement should bring them alongside...

however, Intel will go way beyond 3 ghz sooner than we thought, and don't forget : hyperthreading will be activated at exactly that moment.

the battle is on again!

*:One thing worthy of mentioning is that we have been informed that the next AthlonXP released, the 2800+, will ride a 333MHz bus allowing full use of DDR333 memory out in the market. Interestingly enough, our 2600+ operated just fine at 165MHz bus, but at 166MHz it was quite disagreeable. I am not sure if that just happened to be the wall for our specific chip or there is some kind of huge AMD conspiracy stopping me from OCing beyond that. Most likely the former though.

"AMD has given itself some headroom on the Thoroughbred core, and that's put the Athlon XP back into the game. If the rumors of a coming move to a 333MHz bus are true, Intel may have a fight on its hands again. "

"Compare that with Intel's Pentium 4 prices, and you can see that the XP 2600+ is a steal.
The XP 2400+ is even more of a steal. Pair one of these puppies up with an 80-dollar Radeon 9000 Pro, and you'll have a killer back-to-school, do-everything, gaming-and-work rig.

Of course, Intel has a few tricks of its own up its sleeve, so you may not want to build that rig just yet. Stay tuned"

As we have mentioned, we have confirmation that the 2800+ AthlonXP will ride the 333MHz bus but now the big guessing game is will it be a Barton core with the "extra" L2 cache. I have to say that AMD is making us feel some excitement once again.

If this next 2800+ is a 333 with the extra level 2 cache, intel gets knocked down, especially when coupled with a nforce2 board...
