| hmmm.. interesting, one month ago THE budget system would have been AMD; so Intel is cheaper now in the low end too?

| Not cheaper, but nearly the same price and quite a bit faster... sad thing for amd. : /

| problem with HWbot ranking is that it's taking into account overclocking

| hmm, noticed a bit late that the Asrock PT880Ultra board only has 4x PCIe instead of a normal 16x. It criples the videocapabilities by 5 to 10% when using a mid to high end videocard. I would have been bothered with it if I bought it for gaming.

| not really true in that 5-10% range there in my humble opinion, 4x PCIe = AGP 4x in bandwidth, no VGA cards ever benefited from AGP 8x; in the low-hid end range of VGA cards, that 4x PCIe will be plenty fast, and even with high end G80 it's first see then believe if 8x PCIe will make a difference; 8x vs 16x PCIe is 0% difference anyway, same for 16x vs 32x...

| I've checked multiple reviews: chipset/cpu performance is excellent (not lower than most other chipsets), but 3d performance when coupled with X1950Pro or 7900GT is 5 to 10% slower. This is not due to the 4x PCIe according to you?

| I've seen 2 reviews? 2 is indeed more than 1 and this multiple this one is with 7900GT: this one? http://www.ocworkbench.com/2006/asro...al-VSTA/b8.htm 1FPS difference? less than 2% there. Riddick same story, reason why X6800 scores higher because it's clocked higher that QX6700... --------------- 6800GT: http://www.pro-clockers.com/review.php?id=207&page=6 Motherboard Sierra F.E.A.R. Avg ASUS P5W DH Del 71 Foxconn 975X7AB 71 Abit AW9D Max 72 Asrock ConroeXFire-eSATA2 70 Asrock Conroe945G-DVI 70 Asrock 4CoreDual-VSTA 71 ---- edit; ah found a useful one, finally! http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=2797&p=11 has the 775VTSA which is close though with also PCIe x4 perfectly okay with 1280x1024 gaming if you go higher you need higher end hardware; no point in using €37 mobo with €400 VGA card here goes: 68vs77fps, not bad 43vs46fps, not too shabby Quote:
to answer your question; trailing in some apps with 7900GT/X1950Pro is due to x4, but impact is quite low; note that x4 you have AGP 4x speed (almost) which is still quite good;

| Can't find the review I found earlier but it pretty much said the same as the 68vs77fps chart. Like you said, it's a bit worse but it sure isn't total crap. Most people who buy this board for gaming will never now. Funny to know it has more AGP bandwith than PCIe. Which manufacturer makes a chipset for just 4x PCIe?
