Default Upgrade XP2000 -> PIV 2.8 worth it?

I now have :

AMD XP2000+
MSI KT4Ultra
2x512mb DDR333 Samsung
MSI GeForce4 ti4600
SBAudigy
Maxtor 80gig ATA133

thinking about upgrade to
PIV 2.8
MSI 648 mobo
2x512mb DDR333 Samsung
MSI GeForce4 ti4600
SBAudigy
Maxtor 80gig ATA133

Would this make a BIG difference in 3d gaming? Or would I be better off waiting for the new AMD's.....

Wait for 4 dual channel DDR ... then you can buy a sata board with dual channel ... combo will keep you happy for a while

don't do it.
I second bosw8er : you need to wait 6 weeks for dual channel ddr boards for p4 to hit the streets, the performance will wipe away your old setup

ok, the only thing I'll even consider upgrading is mobo+cpu. My other components (including memory) will be kept for quite a while now, since I invested too much money in them anyway

(I'll possibly get an audigy2 though...)

your memory stays! you can use your ddr memory on the new mobo without a problem, you MUST wait for the granite bay dual ddr chipset...
it will use your current ddr memory but will use it ten times more efficiently.

beginning of december you will be able to buy a 2.8 for about 420 euro's + any granite bay motherboard but those will be released beginning november.

better wait to see which one of those GB boards will be the best

oké calantak, I'll take your advise and wait a bit longer...if only those AMD XP2800+'s would hit the belgian market...damn, it takes too long...I think AMD is losing a lot of customers because of this

I made a similar upgrade from a XP1700+ & 256DDR to P4 2.53Ghz & 512MB ram and I notice a big difference in cpu-heavy games (BF1942 with # bots on 300%), but it's not worth the money.

I'd wait for the GB like calantak said.
