Upgrade PC

I'm planning to give my pc a descent upgrade in a week or 2, I'll start by posting my current specs:

Quote:

MB: ASUS P4G/8x Deluxe
MEM: 2x 256mb Corsair 333MHz-pc2700 cl2
Proc: P4 2,8 - 533fsb
Proc-cooling: Swiftech MCX4000
VGA: Gainward GF4 ti4600 4xagp
My intention is to upgrade my MB, CPU, MEM and VGA-card, it doesn't matter if it's Intel or AMD, I just want the best performing combination.

-CPU: I'm willing to spend up to €600 on this and I was thinking of the following:

* Athlon64 3400 or 3500
OR
* P4 3400 (Presscot or an "old" one?, which one is best for gaming?)

- MB & MEM: depends on the processor
MB: max of €250
MEM: 1GB prefferably, also for about €250 ( CL2 or not?, does it give you a noticable boost?)

- and finally, the graphics-card, with all the new models coming out now, I really have no idea what to choose, max price here is also about €600

I don't care if a certain processor overclocks better than another, I don't really mess around with that much, all I want is pure power, not a super-overclocking-machine

CPU: zeker AMD gaan. wacht op socket 939 of neem een 64bit setup die je nu kunt krijgen
vidcard: x800pro is zeer goed, de x800xt is het best. we weten wel niet wanneer die precies op de markt komt

I've been cruising the net today and I've decided my cpu will be an AMD athlon64 3400

1) what motherboard should I choose?, I want at least 2 Sata-connections on it and preferrably without a fan on the northbridge

2) memory, I've heard/read that A64-boards are real buggers when it comes to memory, what brand/type should I choose ?

ok, thanks for the advice so far guys, but I still have these questions to be answered:

* CAS2, does it give a noticable difference between 2,5 and 3 ?

* what cooler should I put on that 3400 ? is the boxed cooler any good?

* and last but not least, the graphics-card, ATI or nVidia? (going te search the web on this one myself today, but suggestions are always welcome)

ATI X800 Pro seems a good buy in my humble opinion
