transfer of OS and files?

Hey guys

Is there a way to totaly transfer an operating system and all files to another hard drive and actually make it work? this seagate drive dell packed with my laptop is really pissing me off, I'd like to get a western digital but i like the legit version of windows vista basic on the hard drive dell sent me.

any imput would be appreciated
