| Test a Power Supply Can u test a PS out of the case by jumping the pins.. which pins do u need 2 jump |

| make sure you have some components on the psu else it could explode (a hard disk drive orso) the correct explanation i can't give but it had to do something with elco's that charged and couldnt discharge afaik. |

| Absolutely make sure there is a load on your power supply at all times. They rely on powering a device to function properly. It has to do with the internal voltage regulators, they must drive a certain amount of current to calculate the proper voltage. Without a load the power supply won't know what voltage its putting out. You must load your supply for it to work properly. Using old equipment is an excellent way to do this. You can also use a low resistance high wattage resistor for this dummy load, but I wouldn't recommend it unless your comfortable with high power modifications. I use a 16 ohm 20watt resistor on the +5 volt line to insure proper regulation. Note this is very specific to your power supply and 16 ohms probably wont be right for you. |
