SLK900 without plastic shield ?
 

My SLK900U arrived, but it seems that the plastic shield isn't included in the package...

Is this really important, it doens't seem to be imperative to install it ?

If it is that important, is there a place (region Antwerp preferably) where I can get one?
Otherwise I should have it shipped from Germany, and I'm really not interested in waiting more then a week for something like that!

oh yes, it really is: you have to use the backplate to screw the heatsink in place. and you won't find a backplate without the heatsink :(

they say the plastic should be between the backplate and the motherboard.

But I just want to make sure, don't want to ruin a my motherboard and other components :)

It's something to isolate the backplate from your motherboard, if you have some very thin plastic laying around, I think you can use that

use some plastic washers

But the plastic thingie in the middle of the backplate should prevent this, so in fact it wouldn't be necessary ?

I've got an SLK900 too, and you should use the plastic when you have an AMD mobo. I have an Intel P4 and I didn't use the plastic, and my computer hasn't blown up since I installed it so... :D

In fact, the holes in the plastic don't match the holes in a P4 mobo, so maybe you have a "P4" edition? Doesn't exist in my humble opinion but it could be new ;)

It will be used with an NF7-S, so that's AMD :)

The way I see it, the backplate doens't touches the mobo, just the rubber thing in the middle.

The screws can be 'protected' with plastic washers, so I'll give it a try later this afternoon

You could just put a piece of paper between mobo and heatsink... Isolates too and nobody will see ;)
