| slim chances for upgrade before end june... as I see it now, the chances are quite slim that there will be a possibility for a system upgrade before end june... socket 939 will be released in may... but in all probability we'll not see any processors for it before end june...I hope that isn't true but it is likely. radeon x800 xt will be for end may-june too, and as long as that one isn't out we cannot buy an nvidia gpu, coz uncompared buying of 500+ euro gpu's is plain stupid. I've been looking forward to a rig change to play with in the first half of my 16day holiday for about 9 months now and it's a bummer it's not going to happen, especially since I've promised to put my gamerig (the 3500 mhz 1 (4*256) gig 2-2-2-5-9800xt thingie) at my girlfriend's place for her and a friend who lives there. whaddaya guys think? will there be availability of socket 939 before summer, and the gpus?

| Can't your girlfriend wait a little longer, after all, it's your rig and if you haven't replaced it yet it seems kind of odd to dump your old rig already. and your current game rig is more then powerfull enough to play any and all games fluently |

| it's not just my gf, the rig there is the rig I play all weekend on, coz most of my playing time is during the weekends... so if I can replace that one, I can start playing ut2004/painkiller and such there too...at acceptable resolutions however, if a x800 pro is good, that'd be a great replacement too for starters, upgrading to a pciX card in august or sth

| as it looks, we'll have the release of the x800 pro in the next week (hardocp mentioned about the 9800xt : still ati's flagship for another week) so with a little bit of luck, those will be available

| It's too sad many ppl regarded the s754 to have a short life, and just be a temporary solution until the s939 was released. If you kept a close eye to the AMD roadmap, you'd see AMD will continue to sell newer&faster s754 processors for a long, long time. I think it will take a very long time before a s754 3000+ & NV250GB combo (+- 320 euro?) will be beaten price/performance wise by a s939 solution... and all this waiting because of what? Dual channel?

| I'm going to keep one of the PIV3.0's for a long time I think. if this price is correct, don't buy it, just plain stupid. maybe I'll hop on socket 754 again, after selling one of my systems, a 3400+ and NF3-250 - Prometeia R404a (got an offer I can't refuse ro refill my system). gaming on a 2.8 ghz AMD is a bit faster then on a 4GHZ Intel. so likely, the PIV is going to stay I think you would better do the same thing Doc. |
