Sapphire relables R9800XT to 9800Pro 256mb!
 

Keep your eyes open for these Sapphire cards, they're being sold as R9800 Pro 256mb cards, but they have a XT card layout, an XT core and 2.5ns instead of 2.8ns mem chips. So basically they're just a biosflash away from being a true 9800XT, but at a much lower price. :)

It makes sense, it's probably much cheaper to produce 2 PCB's (r9800/r9800pro & r9800pro 256mb/9800xt) than 3 with slightly cheaper components.

These cards have been spotted at newegg.com and in germany for less than 300 euro's, which makes it equally interesting as a r9800 pro at +- 235euro in my humble opinion.

I thought i saw this in the guru3d forums a while ago (I know I saw it, I just don't remember where :s ) so I tried to make an account so I could do a search but when I had filled out the form it said my e-mail account was banned :( and I've never even been there before !! nways, their database doesn't go far back just to 22-01-04

*edit2* some have bought one from vv-computer and they got an xt but one guy called to vv-computer to ask if they had the right one and they said it had a completely normal cooler so it seems that some of them are xt's and some of them are just plain pro's.

other's have bought one at http://www.e-bug.de/ but there is no feedback from those buyers yet as to if they have an xt or a pro board.



On the other hand, it should be pretty easy to get a Saphhire Radeon 9800 Pro 256 Mb from a Belgian shop if you ask me ...
