Repairing Medion 97400

1 Attachment(s)
Friend of me had problems with a Medion 97400. During normal usage the battery refused to load, I first thought this was caused by a malfunctioning adapter plug.

But it is not, look:

Blown fuse + diode with bad contact. Tomorrow more.

company warranty?;)

To late, warranty was already void before I ever touched ;)

Replaced fuse, fast 4A 250V, and soldered the diode back onto the mainboard. Everything going well now. Decent portable, does not seem to have much problems over longer periods of usage (didn't found anything via google).

Probable different I think. Without battery the above puter would not boot, not if I didn't fix it.

When your battery is not longer able to get charged, but you can perfectly use your portable without battery, then it is most likely the battery which is malfunctioning.

One of our forum members contacted me with roughly the same problem as shown above. Once he took out the small diode just besides the fuse his display suddenly woke up. In his case he had to place a new fuse and replace the diode. To mark his words:

it is a normal diode of 100 mAmps and not a Zener diode

Result: everything works fine now, the laptop works and even the battery gets loaded !!!
Job well done OZZY :drink:
