i superglued the SLK900U to the shim...I fabricated a custom mounting kit that goes to slk947 and slk900 on r9800s though...fits perfect and uses the 9800's mounting holes...

Hmmm, that SLK looks kinda crazy to me
Can u say "overkill"? Poor mobo that has to hold that thing.

I just installed an HP80C on my card with fan, but upper plate doesn't get very warm, so I think it's installed wrong. Gonna reinstall it someday, untill then I just set the fan to high just to be sure. ( P.S. That fan ( Optional fan for HP80C ) is one loud mofo at high speed.... Silent mode is OK though )

shouldn't that fan be like Extra silent.

BTW if you are using the extra cooler the zalman way, it's pretty normal for the topside not to get hot.
If you cool the bottom enough so that the cooling liquid can't suficiently evaporate, the top won't get any heat.
I tend to cool the top only, and leave the bottom as it, so the liquid evaporated AND condenses quickly.

Liquid? Where?

The part of the plate just above the "heatsink" ( thing directly on the GPU ) is really hot. Then the rest of the lower plate is warm and the pipe it self has about the same temp as the top plate. So this would be normal? Haven't had any lockups or artefacs so...

Cooling fan which is supplied cools the lower plate, and there is little or no airflow over the top plate.
