Q6600 + GKnot + Divx Hi, is anyone using the quad Q6600 with Gordian Knot with Divx5 codecs? I'd like to know if GKnot/Divx5 combination makes full use of the 4 cores as it does with 2... Thanx |
Can't you check it with task manager? |

I'm looking around for a Q6600 rig, due to the recent price reduction ;-D On some forums I've seen discussion about the real impact of a quad core and it turns out that it all depends on the software (that is why I mentioned GK+Divx that interests me). Some software simply "ignores" the presence of any further core beyond the second one and so voiding any interest for a quad core. GK+Divx takes advantage of a 2 core cpu (80-100% on both, sustained) but wondered if it scaled accordingly with a 4core cpu or not (Photoshop seems not to, for example, so a fast dual core is better than a quad with it). |

Jmke, at the moment I'm with Divx5 and loath about going Divx6 for lack of (personal) tests about compatibility with my hardware and quality/space. The scalability depends much on the encoder used (it seems for example that the Xvid encoder is not very keen on a quad core, MEGUI+H264 seems very happy with 4 cores on the other hand) and hoped for specific Divx5 test... Thanx for the info anyway! |
ah, feature difference 5<>6 is also in multi-threading? didn't know, sorry:) |

It's just that I'm using the Divx5 codecs and for the moment I have no intention of moving to Divx6 ;-), and since the multithreading ability is so depedent ont the implementation of a particular codec, knowing that Divx6 scales up nicely to 4 cores does not necessarily mean that the Divx5 does so as well. |
