Default Portable Desktop aka Laptop Deluxe

I'm looking to replace my current "workstation" at home with a laptop with the aim of being able to take it along to lanparties more easily.

requirements:
* Doom 3 playable
* mucho ram
* 1gbit network
* speedy processor
* dvdwriter
* firewire for external storage (USB2.0 takes up way too much CPU power)
* big enough screen to enjoy movies
* 5.1 sound output "optional"

anybody know what could fit this description?

I'm not planning on spending more then €2500 on this.

How important is weight / battery life / noise / heat? Not at all, or a little?

It's hard to find an A64 powered laptop with a R9700/9800 videocard, but P4 prescott laptops are soo noisy / hot and Centrino's lack a bit power and are more expensive.

Maby a barebone is more suited as small gaming pc, if lan's are the onley reason for the laptop?
A little barebone and a tft should be easy to take to a lan, not?

I must agree with sharpside, it 'd be much easier to build a fast A64 / NV 6800 powered barebone for less money.

agree, also... i believe €2500 will not suffice for a notebook with mentioned requirements (unless you are ok with 1024x768 max resolution)

The Acer 8003 more or less fits his description, or the Dell 9100.

acer 1500 series, with extra ram (sodimm prices are rock-bottom)
I've got an USB 5.1 soundcard form terratic which i'm not using anymore, but nobody seems interested to buy it :/
Altough I haven't tried DOOM3 on mine, I guess it would run sloppy if you wan't much detail.
However, I would not use 'must be able to play doom3' as a criteria, because once the SP campain is finished, most of the fun is gone. According to many people, DOOM3 MP sucks butt.

My brother just bought a Dell for his son for College; A64 3000+ 60GB; 256k Ram; wide screen (15.5"); DVD/RW drive (not DVD burner); 4 USB; RJ45; Wireless ready for less than $1400.

Not sure about graphic card; If remember right, it was from NV.

Surely, the battery life is "short"; not meant for travellers; good for short communte and plugged in at both places.

A must for me on the laptop is TV output for presentations.

An AMD powered Dell...? Sure about that? Could you supply us a link?

It's Compaq; don't know why my fingers don't communicate with my brain.
