How do i best seperate the 2?

BlackRabbit 4th March 2004 12:20

headseek?

= Heatsink?

If yes: freeze them :)

silencer 4th March 2004 12:23

headsink. sry for my error.

jmke 4th March 2004 12:27

headsink?

heaTsink ;)
stUck :)

just wriggle it off.

silencer 4th March 2004 12:48

how long does it have to stay in the deepfreeze?

jmke 4th March 2004 13:01

no freezer.. you are talking about a heatsink you removed from the mobo where the P4 is stuck at the bottom?

or are you talking about the P4 heatspreader?

silencer 4th March 2004 13:06

No, i'm not talking about the headspreader. It is the headsick that is pressed on the processor. And i can't separeted them. The black sticker hold them together.

jmke 4th March 2004 13:07

head spreader?
head sick?

got a picture?
have no clue about what you are talking, I ask 2 questions, you answer with one :"no" ?

silencer 4th March 2004 13:13

heatsick + cpu those 2 are sticked together.

= Heatsick + headspreader + cpu

and i can't seperated those two (headsick and headspreader).

They are not in the mobo for the moment.

Sry my mistake i misted betwean t and d always those dt mistakes

jmke 4th March 2004 13:17

heaTsiNk , heaTspreader :) unfortunate mistyping there!

how did they become stuck together? from what PC did you remove them?

RichBa5tard 4th March 2004 13:20

I give you 5$ for spelling heatsink correctly. :p

Either try heating it up to ~60-70 degrees, or try to freeze it before removing. Either way it's a pretty risky operation.

silencer 4th March 2004 13:21

a friend of my tried to remove his heatsink and the processor came together with his heatsink. But now ge can not get his cpu back in his mobo.

I have put the heatsink + pro in the freeze. But it steay together. :(

ok i will remove the heatspreeder, i hope i can remove that.

But for the moment all my attemps to remove the heatsink from the heatspreeder fails. :(

piotke 4th March 2004 13:39

just warm it up, the thermal pad between the heatspreader (CPU) and heatsink (big cooler) wil come soft, and like bubble gum, easy to remove.
and ffs:

now we are trying this: http://www.madshrimps.be/?action=get...103&howtoID=39

jmke 4th March 2004 14:12

No!
NO NO NO
you will destroy your P4 for NO GOOD REASON..

warm up the heatsink and the P4 will come off by itself.

silencer 4th March 2004 14:49

it is an old processor a 1.8Ghz processor. The warrenty is passed, and we removed the IHS form the processor, cleaned everting and put it back together. The systems is running.

jmke 4th March 2004 15:29

without a heatsink then? because know you have a heatsink with an IHS stuck on the bottom.

silencer 4th March 2004 15:52

yes, and now it was possible to put the processor back in the mobo.

Before we put the cpu in the mobo we cleaned the top of the cpu and the bottum of the IHS.

And after we placed the cpu in the mobo, placed some artic silver on the cpu and then we put the headsink with IHS on top of the processor and close the klems.

The computer started up without a problem and know everty runs fine.

:ww:
u had no idea what u were doing, and yet you did just fine
incredible

[Bonbon] 4th March 2004 16:45

i guess you're blessed silencer

IKilledMyAGOIA 4th March 2004 18:17

someone could have just linked him to an IHS removal tutorial page

[Bonbon] 4th March 2004 18:23

he linked it himself

silencer 4th March 2004 18:51

the best way to remove the IHS is with a cutter-nife.

Not by a rope.

FreeStyler 5th March 2004 10:07

a sharp nylon string will do just fine.

And the CORRECT procedure to do this is just to stick a flathead screwdriver next to the heatspreader, (between the CPU packaging and the heatsink) and just pry it of.
MAKE SURE THE CPU WON'T FLY OFF ANYWHERE, when it pops it can fly quite a distance if you don't block it somehow. (just hold your hand over it.
