coz I think it's slow as hell...

does it overclock?
and how fast is it maximally overclocked, coz' I won't trade in my 3.65 240 fsb 1:1 p4 powerbeast for a slomo athlon 64...
A stock athlon64 3200+ with a stock R9800 pro gives you 20k+ 3Dmarks... I would like to see a P4 doing that on stock speed.

Overclock? This is the first batch and ppl are already getting a 50% overclock (+3Ghz). Not too shabby for a brand new core!

The A64 is amazing. Period.

those +3ghz is with LN2...

the A64 can be amasing, but the P4 2.4 "C" has it beat for price/performance ratio! and not by a small margin may I add.

And the P4 2.4C in his turn gets beaten by a XP1700+ price / performance wise. Your point being?

A64 is expensive, true. But the future is bright. :^)

Not slower, but cheaper and still very performant.

My second hand tbred b setup:
XP1800+ : 50 eur
8rda+ : 50 eur

My second hand P4 2.6C setup:
P4 2.6C: 200 eur
P4P800-VM: 100 eur

Sure, my P4 at 3.3Ghz is faster than my AMD at 2ghz, but it's only noticable thanks to hyperthreading. When running 2 apps at the time, the intel is noticably faster, but not in games or programming.

I don't want to flame Intel, really, but the P4 is not the best price perf, nor the fastest. It's ideal for the well set PC enthousiast.

my 2nd hand P4 2.4C / P4C800 setup totalled at 250€
even at 3.2ghz it outruns the AMD @ 2ghz.. in games/apps/encoding etc.. and not by a small margin

+overall usage in windows is blindingly fast compared to the AMD setup :-)

don't get me wrong, the XP is a lot of "bang" for the buck
but overal you will have more fun and FUTURE rewards from the P4 setup, that HT surely gives it the edge, even though it will cost you more, you will see a difference right away, and in one year you'll still be able to follow the best, while that AXP with its nForce2 chipsetted mobo will begin to drag behind.

Those Quad Pumped 200Mhz lines between CPU and memory will pay off sooner or later

Define "slow"

I agree with RB, it has amazing potential, and it already boasts amazing performance. We haven't even seen half of it yet because a 64bit OS and 64bit apps are not very common.

For being a "first" batch, it's a great processor.
