don't doom³ and far-cry (²nd patch and ³rd patch) already use directX9.0c ?

also, the 6800 GT has slower memory then the ultra and different timings in the bios for the ram.

If you're going to upgrade to A64 then nforce4 is the way to go right now and so is pci-x but that doesn't mean that agp is out. I think you'll be able to find agp cards in the shops for at least another year before you have to turn to the seccond hand market but then again; he bigger shops are already no longer selling s748 processors and hardly have s748 motherboards. same story with Axp processors and motherboards..

If I had to move to another platform, I'd save enough money to get a super duper PSU, an nforce4 SLI and 2 identical pci-x 6800GT's.
the psu because you have to power that a64 and two bad *** vidcards and god knows what else.
2 gt's because ati doesn't have sli compatible cards as of yet and because if you buy one now and you buy one later, you may end up with different bios revisions or minor board layout changes..

If the SLI function isn't an absolute must you can still choose for an nfroce4 + pci-x card or an nforce3 + agp card
the psu may not be an absolute must but going on what you said in your other thread I'm thinking you have a very poor psu...

psu means power supply right? Well the 380 Watt of a Sonata isn't enough for a nforce 4 with 2 graka's?
What's PCI-X? is it something less good as the PCI-Express but compatible on a nforce 4 motherboard? I don't see much PCI-X cards on the web...

my guess is that that 380w psu from sonata will be a no go with two sli graka's since those are all very power hungry

I think.. If I would look to the future upgrades I should better buy a nforce 4 motherboard SLI and a geforce 6800 GT PCI-E

--> I can buy one year later or something like that a new geforce and put them together because of the SLI function.

I can always just buy a new PSU if I'm planning to upgrade?

P.S: would it be possible with Nvidia for example to put a geforce 6800 GT in SLI with a Geforce 7 for example? (Geforce 7 is just made up. )

offcourse you can always get a better psu if the one you have now isn't strong enough and if you have the money for it

most likely, you can buy a 6800GT now and buy another one a year later and they will most likely work but the chance of it not working (as small as that chance is) are bigger if you buy one now and one later then when you would buy them at the same time. for all the reasons gamer already mentioned. and unless they stick to the reference design, you probably can't even use 2 6800gt's from different companies.

and normally, you will not be able to place a geforce 6800 and a geforce 7*** in an sli configuration. at leats not working

Than the question now is... where can I find a Geforce 6800 GT for a nforce 4 motherboard? I don't see a geforce 6800 GT PCI-E on the web.. or is it also possible with a AGP one?
for the Geforce 6600 there are enough PCI-X versions..
