Told you best moment to buy would be november - december : every year the manufacturers will try to get the newest stuff ready for the use in Xmas-stockings ... this year seems no exception, au contraire ... the market is waiting and waiting at the moment with the nice side-effect that the price of the products that have been put on the shelves will plummet at the end of the year. These products are not top-of-the-line but are surely good enough to have a VERY competitive box for another year. Examples of prices that will plummet at the end of the year : GeForce 4, PIV's 533's, AMD XP 2200+, ... You can bild a very nice setup around these products.
I bought a complete new rig every year, at the end of the year, for the past 3 years. Last year i bought a XP 1700+, KR7A-R, 2x 40GB Maxtors, 256MB PC2400, nice Antec -promotion- case and a 8500DV ... at that time it wasn't top-of-the-line (except for the Abit and the 8500DV) ... but is was very good value and still is a very competitive setup.

This article is for those whose monthly budget doesn't include "CPU" as a category along with "Food" and "Rent"

What to think of this...
heatshielding?
me longing for october...
en dat het gedaan is met de multi-unlocking... I don't give a ****, want ik heb meer amusement gehad met gelockede intel OC dan met geunlockede amd's

Realistically speaking, December will probably be the month that NV30 will be readily available.

@ anandtech.

take or give a few it'll be begining next year.
radeon 9700 will last us 4-5 months which is not bad at all.

nais board.

If we can get that up and running with the october 2700+ (hopefully heatshielded) running @ a 166 fsb async 200 ddr membus.(or 3:4 on membus @ 225 or sth )

if the ddr makers would get ddr that does 225 @ cas 2 252 1t that board with a good cpu wuld gop airborne and start kicking intel butt again.

I therefore hope it still takes a while :-)

For within 2 months: KT333/KT400 mobo + pc2700 cas2 ram + athlon XP 2400+ @ 166fsb (2.5Ghz)

This would make a killermachine imo !
