Need a suggestion on buying comp

Well, it has been purchased, thanks for advice! =p

Hello,

I want to buy a computer, but I want to make a wise purchase rather than blow alot of money. So I came up with a prototype but can't make up my mind about one thing.. but first here's the prototype for a gaming comp.

Core 2 Duo E8400
2GB DDR 3 (mid range performance) [edit: 2GB since ill be using Win XP.. and possibly DX10 hack]
GeForce 8800 GT (or 9600.. since FPS on average are like 3 less)

...sure there's more.. but this part is the only one that matters, lol.

So everything in total came up to be like 1,500 CAD (+tax +ship/handl).
Which is not bad.
I figured i'd get E8400 because its kinda cheap for its performance and all those quads are like 1000$+ .. and DDR3 cuz i might need it in the future when i upgrade mobo.

Finally, I was wanting to wait until a "super-cool-new-card" comes out, like late June.. but I also thought I might as well get 8800 GT if I get comp now rather than wait.

So, is it worth it for me to wait until high-end card comes out, dish-out like extra 200$ for that extra performance.. or, buy comp now.. and run games decently (this is good enough to run all current games on all effects?). And when some "next-gen" crap comes out later (time>6 months) i'll just buy it then.

Please give me your opinions.

It looks like a good combination. It'll certainly play all curent games at higher to highest settings, but some next-gen games (like crysis, ut3) will need some extra power at the highest settings.

Thanks for the suggestion, i decided to make up a comp that I will get if i buy it now.

Now I am confused about what motherboard to get, i figured a P35 since, i hear random good things about it..
so its:
Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3L
with RAM:
Mushkin HP PC2-6400 HP2-6400 2GB 2X1GB DDR2-800 CL4-5-4-11
the only issue is i can't find whether or not the board is compatible with the ram, since their compatibility list is super short.. i was also considering having that mushkin a 1066. Also i scrapped the idea of DDR3.

what do you think?

I'd choose the 8800GT over the 9600GT if you want a gaming computer, even with overclocking the 9600GT is not always powerful enough to keep up with the 8800GT. Once you start overclocking the latter I think your choice is quite evident.
