Need input

I was given a PC CHIPs A31G v 1.1c mobo....
I know the website says I can use upto a 2800+ ship yet I believe I can use a faster chip....
Anybody with experience on this issue?
Thank You!!

Not a very popular board and I doubt if anyone in here has the same board to answer your question. Looking at the specifications:

"It can also support latest AMD Athlon64/Sempron, K8 CPUs, up to 800MHz FSB"
"CPU: Socket 754 for AMD Athlon64(K8)/Sempron processor"

Seems like 400MHz FSB processors is all you need, and no s754 CPU ever had a greater FSB then 400MHz DDR. Here is roundup off all s754 CPU's which come with a 400MHz FSB: http://products.amd.com/en-us/Deskto...=&f8=&f9=1600&

Thank You for your imput on this post!!
So looking at that list you gave the URL too...
Do you think i could get away with using the 3700+?
Instead of as the PC Chips site says the 2800+.....or would I be limited by the bios??

Just asking because I really need a cheap substitute for my gaming rigg which is on a P4 -- 3.2 EE with 2 gigs mwemory and a GF 7600 AGP CARD....
yet I was told that almost any other rigg with a PCIe slot and almost any PCIe video card would be faster for gaming that what I am presently using.

AGAIN thank you for your input!!

maybe you can sell your PC chips mobo, S754 cpu's are low on availability, maybe upgrade to Intel C2D? http://www.madshrimps.be/?action=getarticle&articID=610

I know I`m just not in the market to have to get new ram...mobo cpu!!!

Since the board did have a PCIe that would be a cheap upgrade to a faster video card!!

Thanks for all your input!!

Peqce!!
