Mad at Asus - read if you plan to buy a mobo from them.
 

I'm :mad: because I paid top-dollar to get a p5nd2 sli deluxe from Asus about 2 month ago. Now that card was advertised as pretty much future proof, with dual core support etc. That's the angle they used to sell it in their website materials.

So being broke, I bought a cheap p4 3ghz prescott to go with it, thinking I'd be able to upgrade to a P4 9xx series later on. Heck, that processor was listed on their supported list alongside a bios upgrade - how could thing possibly go wrong :rolleyes:

Well, let me tell you what they did. They discreetly *removed* that processor series from their pages a few days ago, and deleted all traces of the aforementioned bios update. And, to add insult to injury, they rewrote their p5nd2 page a few minutes ago, watering down any mention of 'future proofing' (the thing is full of disclaimers now).

So now I'm left with a big piece of overpriced silicon and egg on my face. There's nothing to upgrade to: we all now smithfield is junk and actually runs slower than its single core equivalent.

Is this even legal? Can they advertise something as compatible with technology XXX and then pull it off their marketing materials?

In any case, I got shafted. Next board won't be Asus.

well, if you have any proof that they had advertised it with that information, you can send the board back because it failed on doing what was advertised. Doesn't the box contain any information about the support for the cpu you bought?

Also, you might want to check out xtremesystems, because chances are that somebody has that bios somewhere.

I'm no expert but isn't there something you can do with Google Cache to view a previous version of a website?

i think that is if the site is down, if they updated it i don't think it's there.

I've posted on the official Asus board and some kind soul told me the 955 works fine on that particular mainboard, despite Asus official nay-saying. In fact apparently the whole 9xx series works except for one or two models.

Still, the cpus are unsupported and it was a low-blow from Asus. Oh well, as long as it works...
