Default How long have you been using the same Windows install?

Open a Command Prompt (windows-key+r , type cmd, then enter)

and enter this command:
systeminfo | find /i "install date"

Daily Workstation:
Original Install Date: 5/11/2004, 0:19:01
Closing in on 4 years on my current XP install

File Server:
Original Install Date: 19/08/2003, 6:36:20
Almost 5 year running

alternative method: right click c:\Windows folder and check the creation date. It matches the info Systeminfo command gives me

Too bad you didn't post this 2 days ago, then I could have ckecked it on Vista too

XP on my main pc is from 22/02/2007 0:49 . For my standards that's probably a record.

No overclocking, keep system clean you it should run for many years. The more you tweak the system the worst it gets.

I had an XP install last about 3 years, although that was because I used an image of the OS and ghosted it onto a new drive. That OS is no longer around, but I took this one off my previous desktop that replaced it.

LINK

I'll be lucky if I get an install of Vista to last just 1 year.
