GTX 295 or wait for 5870?

Hey guys,

Just a little indecisive here, I know someone selling a GTX 295 with a waterblock that seems to be a pretty good deal. I can use that with my HTX 260 in PhysX.

Would you do that route or pull the plug on a DX 11 5870 when its available again?

Just not sure what I should do here :(

How much for that 295gtx ?

What screen/LCD do you have? :)

I was facing the same dilemma, but that was quickly solved when A) I saw the results of gameplay-comparison between a GTX295 and a HD5870; B) when reading-up on the differences in picture quality between the two and C) when comparing the price...

I bought an Asus HD5870 for 329 Euro at Tones in Mechelen and am going to order an Asus 5970 once they are available and when the prices go down (sold in the USA fo $599, here in belgium prices vary between €620 & €740, but there's nothing available until end December, beginning of January).

If you can get the GTX295 for a sweet price, like around or under €250, I'd maybe go for that one. But since they still cost in the high €300/low €400, I'd bet on an ATI 5870 or even the 5970, just to be a bit future-proof with DX11.

My three cents. Hey, I had a good month, what can I say ;)

Not yet :D

But seriously, I just would like a card that will last me a while. Since I was able to scrape some money together through the sale of a couple of 'older' PCs I was able to build with spare-parts, I decided to go all crazy (as if I could get more nuts than I am now) and get me a 5970. And commit financial suicide in the process. But I've been told that you only live once. Although some might tell you otherwise.

Besides, the three screen option is also possible on a 5870...

I just picked up the new Dell UltraSharp U2410 1900 x 1200.

The GTX 295 is a really good price, in the €250 (converted) range with waterblock .....

I'd go for the 295 then... Since it could take til April/May 2010 before there's more HD5870/5970s available, you still have the time to marry a rich widow (or at least tickle her) and put some money aside by then ;)

Great monitor, by the way, that Dell...

I'm thinking the same,GTX 295 w/ 260 for PhysX. And yea the monitor is freakin awesome.....so much better than the 1680 x 1050 Sammy I have here aswell.

Sounds like a plan, heh Kurgan?

We could always make a deal, should the 295 not turn out to be what you expected from it... ;)
