Don't bother to change anything in lastest ATI Catalyst/driver for Vista; leave everything in default, or you see funny things on the screen.

A laptop can never match desktop performance; from HDD to graphic card availabilities. After toying this around in the last two days, I am settled down with the current setting ...... LAN printer works; LAN network and file sharing are working fine in both wireless and RJ45; Office XP Pro; all Vista updates (I believe 8 of them); removed all the junks came with.

Turn sidebar off until I get 2GB ram and SP1 released. For the money, it is giving me what I need (not want) for now. Sandra is telling me the T12060 (oem only Intel Duo at 1.6Ghz) is faster than Dothon 2.13Ghz, making me feeling a bit "longer and larger"

I will not put Vista in my desktop(s) until SP1 is released, and knowing compatibility issues are behind plus performance increase over XP Pro .... unless it is free.

haha, time to log in once more, it's been a while.

Anyway, I'm trying to test vista in several ways, performance wise, compared to XP on an identical system.

As for the feel of the os, not much positive to say, I am stuck with a business versions from MSDNAA. But I'll keep you informed

Oh well, I am loading XP Pro into the new laptop
I just can't stand the lack of support from so many software I am using; I will reinstall Vista after I get Nero 7.7.5, WinDVD 8, PartitionMagic 8.0, etc, etc...
I am quite sure Vista will be okay by end of the year.

-------------------

Edit -
Could not proceed; I can't find drivers for the chipset, ethenet controller etc . Gateway site does not have the information. Restoring back (I imaged the entire partition using Acronis), thank God I did that before hand.

Haha;

Vista has built in drive partition with full function - Shink to free up -> create partition for unallocated space -> format newly created partition.

Nice, because Partition Magic 8.0 does not work .... and I could not find any third party support .... now I know why

Right click "My computer"; to "Manage" to "Disk Management"

Vista ain't half bad, but it's not done yet. simple as that, as usual they released a not-finished version tot the public, so we can now be beta testers, and we have to pay for it;
