couldn't find ntldr I've been busy gathering some hardwre for a computer and when I try to install windows XP (on a blank HD) I get the an annoying error: "Couldn't find NTLDR" After this, the computer tries to boot from the HD which results in a bunch of 1s and 0s (HD is empty, or should be at least) When I try to install ubuntu (5.04 - Hoary Hedgehog I believe) I get another error: "disk error 01, ax=4280, drive ef" Composition of my system: CPU: P4 fsb 533, 2.66GHz MOBO: asrock p4v88 RAM: elixir 256MB 400 MHz, runs at 333MHz HD: wd1200jb PSU: 400W, which should be more than enough Using the same install CD and the same HD I can get the install running on an other computer I've tried several other drives... with no succes I'm now off to get my brother's CPU: 1700, fsb 400, maybe to find my CPU has failed... I'm completely in the dark here so any help is welcome Thanks, Itasilmë -sorry, my thread was in Dutch : )- |
I would suspect either faulty HD, memory or doubling "s" in motherboards name. First try Memtest http://www.memtest86.com/ Then test HD http://support.wdc.com/download/inde...&pid=3&swid=30 |
update: CPU is ****ed : /, works perfectly with my brother's 1700 |
