Yes it fills any microscopic imperfections on both surfaces that would otherwise just contain air pockets. Lapping gets rid of alot of them if done properly.

these temps aren't reported on all air-cooled Q6600 are they? I'm getting normal (23C ~ 32C-IDLE 40C ~ 60C-LOAD) water-cooled temps on my Q6600 running 9x400FSB (3.6GHz with a very small Vcore increase)...
