anybody bought a radeon 9700 pro yet?

which brand, and how does it clock?
I'm back home, and after three full months of [H]-spending stop, i wanna know how these beasts work

since nvidia30 based solutions won't be showing up until februari 2003, this ati should be what's needed to work thru the game-onslaught end this year.

jmke 7th September 2002 04:27

they are not available yet
9000 Pro will be arriving @ the shops first

biCker 7th September 2002 07:27

The Senile Doctor 7th September 2002 09:20

PlayboY 7th September 2002 11:18

you're still in for a though ride :

1st : fake
2nd: P4 3917 + GF 4 ti4600
3rd : p4 3624 + R9700
4th : calentak in a few days :)
5th : 3361 + r9700

The Senile Doctor 7th September 2002 12:07

well, it's here, no 2.66/2.8 though :( , so that'll have to wait.

I can try probably tomorrow or tuesday with the radeon,
I can go with a 3.2 ghz and the radeon, that should get me arount 18 k I hope.
we'll see.

The Senile Doctor 7th September 2002 16:06

radeon doesn't seem to wanna work :-(

I formatted and reinstalled xp with the 9700 and everything went fine.
installing the catalysts on the cd as well as the official ones results in black screen and reboot...
anybody have any clues??

Gamer 7th September 2002 17:43

20K

The Senile Doctor 7th September 2002 20:06

sadist = bosw8er

this card is utterly dead.
and the 2.66 I wanted won't be in for another two weeks.

Could've been above 18000 now too...

:(

I am bored with bad hardware that never even works ???

Gamer 7th September 2002 20:55

nice score from OPP :)

It seems like 20K is not for today.

Gamer 7th September 2002 21:03

here are some drivers that could help if you got another card :
http://warp2search.net/download.php?...download&sid=1

Bosw8er 7th September 2002 21:18

- bios update
- pick higher aperture size than 64
- have you examined the card ? ... burnmarks somewhere ?
- i doubt if this is applicable but : Most of the AGP cards' gold finger includes a notch to identify AGP 3.3V or AGP 1.5V as illustrated in the picture below. An AGP card without that notch means that AGP 1.5V is not compatible and cannot be inserted into AGP slot fully. Very few graphic cards, such as the Leadtek WinFast VR300, are a 3.3V only AGP card but includes a "1.5V notch" golden finger. An abnormal golden finger such as this will permit AGP card plug into 845/850 mainboard fully, burning the chipset and damaging the mainboard. Some graphic cards have jumpers to switch between AGP 1.5V or 3.3V. Please DO make sure it's jumpered at 1.5V before use on Intel 845/850-based mainboards
- another bios remark : Why does my system hang at the Windows screen after flashing the BIOS from newer version to an older one?
Because the latest BIOS 38 for TH7-II board has added some revised I/O Mapping from previous versions. Therefore, if you flash the BIOS from the newer version (38) to older one (37), it will corrupt your operating system.
We suggest you do not downgrade to an older BIOS unless you have backups.

As you might know I'm NO fan of Windows XP, ... I've heared a lot of complaints regarding system restore and safe mode in combination with driver updates. There's even a long thread at Icrontic how to update HP raid drivers on an XP-system ... as said : it's a long thread. Because you said you changed/updated drivers inbetween system freezes, i wouldn't be surprised if this option ruined your card by making it run at ludicrous speed or other "destruction mode"

Magnum_ 8th September 2002 13:37

I disabled that system restore thingy, for reasons mentioned above ;)
btw : damn, I expected about 17-18k scores, 20k = IMPRESSIVE !

The Senile Doctor 8th September 2002 16:06

system restore has always been disabled.

my mobo can't be dead, works perfectly with my other gpu's.

the card is dead, it doesn't post on an msi ddr mobo I've just tried, and it doesn't post on a dell pc I've just tried.

The card ran for 30 minutes in which it crashed my pc 50 times.
Then it died.

You think so?
we are very close to an attack on the 22k mark...
There are plans for one of the next weeks combining the use of a 2.5a processor overclocked with LN2 to 4 gig or beyond, and a prometheia-cooled, voltmodded radeon 9700

We don't know if we can beat his score, but we have the tools, the knowledge, and the power.

stay tuned.

ATI: we hava a better card, a faster card, get a higher FPS, Have better AA, have faster memory, have a nicer design and have a higer failrate.
we're simply better on every level.

:D

Bosw8er 15th September 2002 19:40

puttin' it all together
[H]
Big Bugs:
Mr. Johnson directs us to the Rage3D Forums this morning where they are discussing a "glitch" possibly with the latest ATi Catalyst drivers. This one is very worthy of taking notice of.

Apparently, if you have an NTFS partition, an r8500, and XP (not sure about 2k) and enable the windows memory management to optimize 'system cache' rather than 'programs', then data is incorrectly written to the hard disk and lost!

I can confirm that this problem exists as it just happened to me. After a reboot, XP reported that files were being used and lost. I immediately changed this setting back and now am problem free.

I will make sure we bring this to the attention of the ATi Driver team. There is also a pointer back to this MS page on the error that is seen. There are a few theories being batted around and it is not sure where the fault lies yet. Still you might want to back up that NTFS data before you install.

Bosw8er 16th September 2002 10:15

from : OC'ers com

There's a pretty good chance that EVERY Radeon 9700 card in existence today is likely to have the AGP 8X problem. ATI has apparently made revisions to boards which correct this.

Unless you like to buy broken $350 video cards (in which case, you need help), until ATI publicly says what is or isn't wrong with these cards, what they're going to do about it, and what happens to all the inventory out there, don't buy it.

And if you like to tell people to buy what could well be broken stuff . . . you need help, too.

Update: The ATI webpage on this issue, and the place where they'll announce updates is here.

DUR0N 2nd November 2002 20:18

/DUR0N joins the broken r9700pro club.
sucker wouldn't run 3dmark2001 nor ut2K3
one of the ram sinks fell of...
putted ramsink back on, the glue was still sticky
tried it again on another system: would barely run under windows (sloppy, some weard pixels)
reboot
thadaa! blue green red pink colours all over the place.
took it out of the AGP slot and back in.
worked well until windows XP startup screen, then 3 white pixels on the screen, no more, no less

broken :(

RichBa5tard 2nd November 2002 23:36

Damn, I thought the cards that are currently being sold had a better quality control than the first batch. :(

By the way, are you going to couple that R9700 with a duron? Nice overkill :D

DUR0N 3rd November 2002 21:52

i'm trying to get 12.5k with a duron cpu, so i have the fastest duron on earth.
the cpu is capable (getting a swiftech watterblock with internal 226w peltier + black ice 2 ) and it's already running at 1455 (171x8.5) @1,85V. with a voltmod i think 1500mhz at a high FSB should be possible (getting new ram)
the only real problem is: i need the radeon 9700pro. The ones used already are property of colorcase.be. They were ordered by customers, but with the many problems of the card, i can test all cards that will be sold :) But i can't overclock them :(
If someone would borrow me an overclocked r9700pro, the record is mine! (his too:p)

RichBa5tard 4th November 2002 06:08

171FSB with a duron is impressive! Hope you reach 12.5k :)
