Default Analog to Digital video conversion

Hi all

I have a video question, I am a photographer going to college and have been looking into camcorders. I have an older VHS camcorder thats still working but no way at present to convert the analog to digital video. I'd like to play around with video for awhile before i commit to buying a digital camcorder because if I were to buy one it wouldn't be a miniDV, I just don't like em. In a perfect world I'd buy up a High Def digital camcorder but alas I'm a starving artist.

My question is does anyone know of an easy way to convert analog video from a VHS camcorder into a digital media such as WMV, AVI, or MPEG? Would a tv tuner for my desktop do the trick? I know you can record video from the television but I dunno about recording digital video from a VHS camcorder, is this possible?

thanks

-Ray

Yes, you can do that with good TV tuner card to maintain 30FPS and doesn't drop alot below. Make sure audio is connected also. There is nothing much to dislike digital video; at least editing is much easier. Try getting a digital camera with mpeg video, an inexpansive way to find out whether you like it or not. Make sure the format you are using NTCS or PAL before you get the turner. I have no luck with USB turner; they are slower than PCI card.

Your residence TA could give you better recommendation than us or anyone else; because he/she knows the course requirement and work assignment the school is likely to require students to complete.
