I sometimes wonder how many people actually just upgrade their CPU alone? It seems most people, me included, go in with the idea of being ready for an upgrade but by the time they do, it's MB upgrade time too.....

Quite a few people seem to upgrade CPUs... but just from what I see it seems to be when they're upgrading pretty low-end to whatever they reasonably can for their platform.

I built my rig complete from scratch in '03 as it is now, albeit without the plethora of random HDDs I've accumulated... I'd very much prefer to only upgrade either my 2.80c P4 to dual core anything, as I'm the proverbial heavy multitasker it was designed for and HT/OCing only helps so much Same with the Pentium M lappy into a Core Duo or Merom... but in both cases I can't due to motherboard limitations.

The only thing I could possible re-use from this computer in a new Conroe rig would be the case! And even that I'd prefer to replace with a P180-B if I could. Even some of the HDDs can't go over to a new rig since most are IDE, as I'll end up using the single IDE port most mainboards now come with for my cd/dvd burners. Although I've spotted a couple two IDE port 965P boards floating around... will have to see what comes on the RD600 chipset motherboards due out soon. That asynchronous memory controller and 1500FSB rating have my full attention... (Not to mention ~$150 price point)
