Default a64 mobo

ok, a friend of mine wants to buy a new pc. he really wants 64 bits, but it still has to be payable. so I suggested a 3000+. the problem is I dont really know what mobo he should buy....
I've been out of the hardware world for a while, and really need to catch up

what is the best a64 (socket 754) chipset? the via k8t800? havent heard about any other tbh

I'm so ashamed

I'm not sure but i thought the Asus K8V (K8T800) was one of the best a64 socket 754 mobo's atm.

It's overclockable, sleek design, feature-rich (sata raid, 6ch sound, gigabit lan, ...) and pretty cheap ( < 150 euro).

he is no hard core oc doesnt even do any oc I think

I suppose the asus k8v deluxe is what he needs?

the most performance chipset for a64 is the sis 755 chipset, it seems it has the most memory bandwith,

same as the via-chipset it uses a north- and southbridge, but it usus his own technologie to connect the 2 chips

the bandwith is twice so high: 1gb/s

don't know if there are motherboards produced with this chipset
