refurbished processors at newegg.....

I ntoiced newegg has refurbished products. I see that the prices can be quite a bit cheaper on some stuff. Like hypothetically if I could get a athlon 64 3400 refurb over a athlon 64 3000 new would it be worth the extra dollars? The refurb, I could afford but not the new 3400. I guess the question Im asking is will the refurb perform as well as a new one? And will it be reliable?

Thanks...

Excellent question raised!!!!!

Here is the cheap guy's analysis.

1) There is no such a thing as refurbished processors .... they can't and won't repair it.

2) Short of any better term .... refurbished that is.;)

They are return goods with which ...
1) Customer made a mistake buying the wrong processor.
2) They may not be good overclockers.

Okay, having said that I purchased many "refurbished" CPUs from newegg. What I have noticed is ..... they are not the best OCers.

If you don't OC alot .... the price is right.;)

Cool, but one thing, will they run the stock speed just as fast as a new one? Is their performance lowered in that area? And by not being good overclockers do you mean the paticular chip just came from a bad batch?
Thanks

they are just as quick :)

They certainly run at stock speed. Here are some examples I recollected.

All refurbished.
P4 2.6C purchased a year ago $125 OC'ed to 255 FSB
P4 2.4C purchased 14 months ago $119 OC'ed to 255FSB (got rid of it two months later)
P42.8C purchased last Dec. $140 OC'ed to 245FSB
XP1700+ $40 OC'ed to 10.5x200 2100 Mhz

Some good and some not so good.;)

Now, here is another story ..... motherboard.

Lucky for me .... never a bad one.;)

Sorry about that....But do you know the answer LOL....

it depends on the product, check on warranty when buying refurbs, would say like Lazyman, that most of them will be returned functioning products , because they did not meet OC requirements of theoriginal buyer.

in short I would say that that system has to be introduced in Belgium also:)
