Yes. But with a PE + pelt you can go much higher!
The Samsung memory-chips of a X800 XT PE are faster (1,8 ns) then the chips of a "normal" X800 XT.

But on the other hand, I think an X800 XT PE is to expensive right now. Maybe it's better to buy an X800 Pro and mod it to an X800 XT.
Weren't the XT's supposed to use 1.667 ns memory.

You are correct! My mistake!

These are the different speeds:
  • RADEON X800 PRO (12 pipelines, 2 ns memory)
    core: 475 Mhz
mem: 450 Mhz (2 ns = 500 Mhz so there's room for overclocking)
  • RADEON X800 XT (16 pipelines, 1,6 ns memory but there are also types with 2 ns memory!!)
    core: 500 Mhz
    mem: 500 Mhz (1,6 ns = 600 Mhz)
  • RADEON X800 XT PLATINUM EDITION
    core: 520 Mhz
    mem: 575 Mhz (1,6 ns = 600 Mhz)

But I haven't seen X800's with 1,6 ns mem that actually made it to 600 Mhz.

I think the best buy is a X800 PRO VIVO! Flashing the BIOS of that card with a XT-bios enables the 16 pipelines. I've seen cards that almost made it to XT PE speeds with standard cooling and no artifacts!

Wouldn't that be a better buy?

It would if you could be sure that on all pro cards the 16 pipelines are intact. That probably is not the case for some, since I've heard of failed and irriversible mods... Of course it's a risk (I would probably take it too ) but one that can be avoided...

If you buy a VIVO, there's 100% chance it works. At least, that's what I read in a couple of fora where many users have tried it with success. Dunno why but for some strange reason, all X800 PRO VIVO's have no bad pipelines. So the 16 pipelines are intact (but the card only uses 12 off course)

Well, the mod works for now But when will ATI "fix" this?

soon... That's the reason why the X800Pro's we're waiting for on a grouped order take so much time...
