What do you think about pop influence on tech products?
Well, you may have noticed from CES and other tech events that pop culture is now influencing tech consumer products even more frequently now. It made me wonder if people were actually buying these products, as the monetary endorsements for some products must be absolutely huge.
How about something like the Beats by Dre headphones and earbuds? What about the Lady Gaga Polaroid digital camera, printer, and glasses? The richest man in music business, Sean "Diddy" Combs, has his own Diddybeats product line that probably does what most of his businesses do... make him money.
Hewlett-Packard also has Gwen Stefani, Pharell, and other celebrities in commercials to market the company. It's a clever way to bring attention to its wide variety of consumer electronics ... and is a strategy other companies should learn from IMO.
Personally, I'm not interested in these products, unless they actually are decent quality products. I purchased a pair of Skullcandy G.I. AI 9 headphones but only because the San Francisco Westfield Mall (a mall that I recommend you visit if you're ever in the SF Bay Area). Other than that, it seems rather unlikely I'm purchasing a tech product just because it has some pop icon or celebrity's brand influence.
