Basically, it's like getting a degree in something at school. Everything depends on what you want to do when you go out to the track.

Just want to have some fun? Open track days are just what the name implies -- check the date, sign up, bring a car or a bike and have some fun. No license needed. Mind you, no chance of getting a ticket for speeding or reckless driving, and basically you're only putting your own car (and your safety) at risk. Let's take Zolder as an example: open circuit days are the only way to do some laps without a permit. In fact, make it a trip, fuel up and head out to the Nurburgring. One lap sets you back about €10 to €15, and you get to drive one of the most (in)famous circuits the known world has to offer.

Itching to get a taste of the real deal? Cough up a few 100 euro's, and get yourself in a couple of circuit driving stages. Closed training sessions under the supervision of experiencend instructors will allow you to pass the tests needed to get a license. Then it's all about which way you want to go. Competing in Belcar, for instance, requires a vehicle that will meet their standards, as said before.

Imagine, my 1300cc Corolla on a race circuit

Are you going to put your BMW E36 on the racetrack?

Well, not much use in doing that. The E36 is a 318TDS, a 1700cc turbodiesel sporting a whopping 90hp. I'm planning to build this one as my daily driver, so fuel economy is one of the main goals on this one. I have already put some money in parts for this car, together with a lot of effort and time. if the engine isn't damaged too badly, I'll completely overhaul it. That way I'll have some serious bang for the buck, and a very enjoyable everyday car.

Doing some serious engine work will not only make it burn less fuel, but all the little modifications I have planned will also add up to a nice gain in power and torque, not to mention I will have it custom chipped afterwards. After this, I'm only planning on swapping in an original M3 interior (I always absolutely adored those seats) and renewing suspension with something a bit more sporty.

I'm currently driving an E39 520i straight six, which is a really nice car actually . But seeing as how it does cost me a sh*tload of money to drive this while I have other plans for the next few years, parting with it is the only smart thing to do. Which I will regret dearly. The E36 costs me less in fuel, taxes, insurance, parts, just about everything.

So, to answer your question: I doubt the E36 will ever see a race track. On the other hand, by this time next year I'll have my bike, and I do plan on tracking that thing as soon as I'm up for it. Plus, a dedicated E30 track car is certainly on my wish list. it's feasible, but most likely not for these first few years yet to come. Too bad

Oh my, just saw my first M5 Touring yesterday. She just stood there, a little further down the road from my house, parked as if it was a normal car. Too bad I had dinner reservations, and only got a chance to take some pictures with my cellphone - when I wanted to return to take some decent shots, she was gone already

It was a German plate, and as far as I know the M5 Touring hasn't been released in Belgium yet. Don't have the data cable for this cellphone, and I can't zoom in on the picture either.

Got some good pictures of a GT3 RS as well - one crazy car.

I'm planning to buy a second hand Audi A2. Does anyone know how much km's a volkswagen/audi 1.4TDi 75pk (3 cilinders, 2001 or later) can do in it's lifetime? I need to know whether I better buy one which has less than 100.000km's or not.

Audi is expensive in service for parts and labor, the A2 also doesn't give you the best you can get for your money, why not look for a second hand Japanese car? They will be cheaper to buy, cheaper for service and last you easily as long
