Torpedo Tom Boonen out of the Tour de France!

Sad news for Belgian cycling fans and supporters of Team Quick Step... "Torpedo" Tom Boonen will not be allowed to start the Tour de France due to his testing positive for cocaine.

SAINT-PAUL-EN-JAREZ, France (AFP) — Tour de France green jersey champion Tom Boonen has been barred from next month's race in the wake of a positive test for cocaine.

Race director Christian Prudhomme told AFP on Wednesday that Boonen would not be at the Brest start line on July 5 because his positive test, while not performance-enhancing, damaged the reputation of the race.

I guess Thor Hushovd, Oscar Friere and Robbie McEwen will have an easier time snatching stage wins without Boonen!

Hopefully, assuming he didn't get pwned by a spiked drink or something, Boonen is able to get his life under control! He's still young enough where he can turn things around, especially since it's not like he'll be suspended...

hmmm... Belgian government already said they would not impact his sport career. Also there is suspicion that his drink was spiked at a outdoor Café.

It's sad news, but I totaly agree with the decision. Tom is an example for many (young) people, but using drugs he's not making a positive impression. Hopefully by taking away his rights an example is set for people that drugs abuse is still a bad thing.

it's not 100% sure yet if he's out of the Tour, if his spiked drink can be proven or other evidence comes to light; the outcome will be different.

for now the "Tour De France" have not yet said yes/no; it's all speculation so far

Wow, a 26-year old has been caught using cocaine once, big deal. He has been tested ever since he started cycling, never ever been caught for anything. Once again, the press is blowing this up as if it was the biggest EPO-scandal of the century.

Now, we'll read about cocaine-addicted youth in Flanders for about three-four months. I bet in the end that the media will state that 95% of all young-adults are drug addicts ...
