but in reality you will see a different picture, that 90pk Golf motor is using Diesel Injection versus Common Rail on the other 2. this translates into a sportier driving experience, and since RichyB is used to driving his parents' BMW 320..

my parents have the new corsa, with common rail idd, but they don't complain that it isn't sporty enough...
they also have a mercedes C200, and of course they say that the mercedes accelerates bretter and drives better on low 'toerentallen'...

but it all depends on what car you want...
and I don't think opel sucks donkeyballs, it has it's qualities too

btw, I haven't tried it yet, but I'm sure I can get quite some accelerationpower out of the corsa too, inspite of the common rail

I have the same problem with my Astra break, it only has 70 pk but the front tires go up in smoke in no time, it really has no grip when breaking or cornering. It get's even worst in the rain.

A colleague has the Alfa, nice leather interiour and nice looks but the building quality sucks. She also got several problems with the engine, problems starting and so.

I didn't drive the new Astra yet so the my choise would be between the Astra or the Golf, the Audi is ugly.

The best thing that you can do is go to the dealership or the website and request a testdrive. It is very easy to get a testdrive and it makes your choise much easier

well, a golf is imo (and that alfa too actually) absolutely not sporty, it's fast, it has pretty good cornering
but it's almost like the world moves around the car, instead of the car around the world.
it's too clean, too perfect, too comfy even

i'd pick an asian car above a european anyday
i like a 'drivers' car as topgear calls it
german cars are more 'comfort' cars (most of them anyway)
i don't know if u get what i mean, but this is probably as clear as i can get.

another thing i don't like is that asian cars are starting to get more and more comfort cars too, but that's all imo offcours

@Jakkerd: I have no f*cking clue what you are going on about "driver's car" afaik ALL cars are "driver's cars"; If you don't like comfort buy 12-year old cars and then.. no wait.. you did that already

extreme examples:
'driver's' car:
nissan skyline
nissan 200sx
mazda rx7
subaru impreza wrx
mitsubishi lancer evo
ferrari/lamborgini/mclaren/...

'comfort' car:
audi a8
mercedes S
bmw 7
opel vectra

golf/astra/a3/etc are more like the last ones, and that's exactly why i don't like'm
but that doesn't mean that those are bad cars
if u enjoy owning/driving one, then go ahead and enjoy it
but i always feels like i'm missing something in a car like that.

just my very humble opinion
